WHAT TO DO IN SPELLO
Spello is a small medieval town near Assisi and Perugia. It is just 18 miles away from our Hotel, a 20 minutes drive.
It rises at the foot of Mount Subasio, and its fertile soil yields the most precious gift: olives. In fact the town is member of the National Association Città dell’Olio (olive oil town).
If you want to cast a glimpse on the town don’t miss:
- Santa Maria Maggiore Church: with its perfectly preserved Romanesque door, the floors, decorated with the famous Deruta ceramics. The Baglioni Chapel, showing Pinturicchio’s frescos, considered the best of his production.
- Roman Domus recently dug out from under the city hall pavements. It is largely preserved and it is possible to see the different rooms, the vestibule and the ancient paving.
Follow our advice… if you are visiting Spello you shouldn’t miss The INFIORATA.
Flowers, colors and perfumes to celebrate Spring coming.
On Corpus Domini Festivity Spello streets and alleys become a paramount vision of velvety flowers, 1,5 kilometers long. Houses’ balconies are decorated as well.
These flowers portrait images of the Holy Bible and are a masterpiece of handiwork.
Thus Spello was given the name of “Flower Capital”.
The main event is “The Flower Night” of Spello. You can watch infioratori (the artisans decorating the city) during their work and in the meantime enjoy a walk through the crowded street and listen to music concerts or visit the street markets.
